Long Play Sound is DJ hire run by Martin Long, who has 25 years behind the decks, including Pacha, Turnmills, Scala, Number 90 and a residency in Rimini. Every booking includes the DJ, a club-quality PA and lighting scaled to your room, PAT tested kit, public liability insurance and a planning chat. Prices start from £450 and are quoted per event.
What you get when you hire a DJ from us
When you hire a DJ, you are really hiring two things: someone who can read a room, and a system that makes the music sound as good as it should. We bring both. The DJ is Martin, who has played everything from London club nights to wedding terraces in Morocco and Italy. The system is Pioneer CDJs and turntables, powered speakers on stands, LED lighting and a lit booth.
- A DJ who reads the room. No pre-programmed playlist. The set is built as the night goes, around who is on the floor.
- Sound scaled to the space. A bigger PA for larger rooms, a compact rig for boats and tight corners.
- Lighting that suits the room. LED lighting and a lit booth, not a wall of flashing effects.
- The paperwork venues ask for. PAT tested equipment and full public liability insurance, sent straight to your venue if needed.
- Setup and pack-down. We arrive, set up, play and pack away. You don't need to think about it.
What kind of events we DJ
Most of our bookings fall into five groups, each with its own page:
- Weddings, in the UK and as a destination wedding DJ abroad.
- Corporate events: Christmas parties, launches and awards nights.
- Boat parties, including on the Thames.
- Anniversary parties, from a first anniversary to a golden wedding.
- Birthday parties, including 30ths, 40ths, 50ths and 60ths.
If your event is none of these, ask anyway. If it has a dance floor, we're interested.
The music
Our core genres are disco, house, soul, funk and indie. We are equally happy playing pop, rock and classics when the room wants them. That range is the point of hiring an experienced DJ rather than a playlist: a drinks reception might need soul and disco at a volume people can talk over, and the same crowd two hours later might want indie anthems or a proper house set.
DJ hire in London
We are based in London, which is where most of our club experience comes from: Turnmills, Scala and Number 90 among them. London venues often have their own rules on load-in times, sound limits and power, and we are used to working within them. If your venue has a house sound system, we are happy to plug into that instead of bringing our own.
Outside London and abroad
We travel across the UK and abroad. We've played weddings in Morocco and Italy and held a residency in Rimini. Tell us where your event is and we'll come back with what's involved, including travel.
How much does it cost to hire a DJ?
Our DJ hire starts from £450, and every event is quoted individually. The things that change the price are:
- How long we play. A two-hour set costs less than a drinks reception through to the last dance.
- Where the event is. Travel time and distance from London.
- The size of the room. A larger room or guest list needs a larger PA and more lighting.
- The date. Peak Saturdays and December book up first.
